The Fourth Closet, also known as Five Nights at Freddy's: The Fourth Closet, is the third and final book in the Five Nights at Freddy's book trilogy.

Description[]

What really happened to Charlie? It's the question that John can't seem to shake, along with the nightmares of Charlie's seeming death and miraculous reappearance. John just wants to forget the whole terrifying saga of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, but the past isn't so easily buried.

Meanwhile, there's a new animatronic pizzeria opening in Hurricane, along with a new rash of kidnappings that feel all too familiar. Bound together by their childhood loss, John reluctantly teams up with Jessica, Marla, and Carlton to solve the case and find the missing children. Along the way, they'll unravel the twisted mystery of what really happened to Charlie, and the haunting legacy of her father's creations.

Plot Summary[]

The Isolationist[]

John had been traumatized for six months after watching his girlfriend Charlotte "Charlie" Emily die at the hands of Twisted Freddy in her childhood house. Charlie had miraculously reappeared the day after her death, but John couldn't bring himself to believe that it was actually Charlie, thinking it was an impostor. John was at his construction job, but was distracted by his nightmares that replayed the death of Charlie. Thinking his head was 'in the clouds', his boss warned him to stop getting distracted. John went home after work. He lived in a small, shabby apartment with very little furniture with almost no decorations. The one decoration he did have was the head of Theodore. In the middle of the night, John went on a walk by himself.

The Party[]

While John was walking, Jessica saw him on the dirt path next to the road. Jessica drove up to him and got out of her car. Jessica told John about how Carlton Burke had come back to Hurricane, Utah from his college in New York. Jessica then told John how a party was going to happen at Clay Burke's house. John didn't want to come and asked Jessica who would be there. Jessica then warned John that he had to talk to Charlie again eventually and that John ignoring Charlie was killing her. John said maybe to going to the party and Jessica left him. The next morning, John went to work again. However, he was late by a few minutes and promptly fired. John then decided to go the party. He arrived at Clay's house but hesitated at the door. Suddenly, Clay opened the door for John and let him into the party. Jessica, Carlton, and Marla were all already there. John, Jessica, Carlton, and Marla all start chatting, but John is very uncomfortable about the whole thing. Clay saw John was uneasy about the conversation and ordered him to come to the kitchen with him. John thought Clay wanted him to open a ketchup bottle, but he just wanted to make sure John was okay. John said he didn't want to be there and promptly left the house.

The Conversation[]

After he left Clay's house and began walking to his car, Charlie saw John outside on the sidewalk and walked over to John. Charlie said hello to him and forced him into a conversation he didn't want to have. John didn't no what to say to her and didn't believe that she was actually Charlie. This confused Charlie, who remarked that John didn't think that she was herself. John was also very confused, but Charlie asked John out on a date to the Italian place they had their first date in The Twisted Ones. John agreed but was still confused. Charlie then went towards Clay's house and talked to Jessica.

The Scare[]

After what happened at Clay's house, Jessica went to the grocery store to buy some groceries. She arrived at her apartment afterwards with a bag full of groceries. She struggled to carry all of them while opening the door and an apple fell out of her bag. She finally got the door open and went inside. The quiet in her appartment was eerie to Jessica, who felt as if she were being watched. She looked around her, but saw nobody else was there. She went towards her bedroom, only to be scared by Charlie. Charlie had broken into her apartment. Charlie apologized for scaring her and asked for help picking out clothes for her date with John. Jessica said that she looked great and Charlie went to meet John.

The Date[]

John arrived at the Italian place to meet Charlie, but was shocked to see that she was on time. This was a shock to John, who was used to Charlie always being late to dates. John, not fully trusting Charlie, was very skeptical and asked Charlie crucial questions about her memory of her past with John. These included the name of the film they watched on their first date, Zombies vs. Zombies!, which Charlie did answer correctly. However, Charlie failed to remember what John told her before she 'died' at the hands of Twisted Freddy. John shared his theories with Charlie about who he thought she might be, saying he thought she could be Sammy Emily, her twin. To which she replied saying Sammy was dead. At the end of the date, Charlie asked John if he had heard from Jen Emily (Aunt Jen). John said no, which was true. In the end, they both leave the restaurant more confused then before. But, Charlie did reveal that Jen had saved her from the springlocks of Twisted Freddy.

The Visit[]

After the date, John went back to Clay Burke's house to tell Clay about what Charlie told him during their date. Clay wasn't surprised to see John, but was shocked that Charlie didn't know where Aunt Jen was. However, Clay revealed that several children had gone missing and maybe had been kidnapped. Clay also remarked about creepy all the clowns walking around town were and how weird the new Circus Baby's Pizza restaurant was. John then left Clay's house and began to drive home when he saw a weird female clown that looked robotic on the street. The robot simply ignored John and he drove past it. The clown robot was Circus Baby and she made her way over to Clay's house. Clay realized that Circus Baby was in his house and preceded to block his door and grabbed a gun. Circus Baby shredded his door apart and stabbed him with ease, managing to escape. John decided to go back to Clay's house to tell him about the weird clown, only to find him bleeding out on the floor. However, John found Clay had a pulse and was still alive. John then called 911 and Clay was brought to the hospital.

The Hospital[]

John and Jessica went to hospital to visit Clay shortly after, being allowed to enter the police chief's room at the hospital. Clay, while in the hospital bed, gave the two of them an envelop and told them they must have a maximum range. Inside was a bunch of photos that all featured Charlie with other people and a microfilm that had digital versions of the photos. Marla and later Charlie also arrived at the hospital to see Clay, but Charlie appeared to purposefully not look at Clay. While still there, John told Jessica that Theodore had been repeating the message "Shining Star, Silver Reef" and asked Jessica if she knew what that meant. Jessica replied saying that Silver Reef, Utah was a ghost town not that far away. The two agree to drive there the next day.

The Reveal[]

The day after the hospital conversation, John and Jessica got into a car together and drove to Silver Reef, Utah. They arrived at the town, only to find it abandoned and empty. However, they see a house with a star on it, remembering Theodore had also mentioned a shining star. They walked up to the house with a star and knocked. Jen Emily answered the door, inviting them inside after they told her they were here to talk about Charlie. They mentioned that the Charlie that had been around the past six months had acted differently and that Theodore had given them a message to come here. While John, Jessica, and Jen were having a conversation, they heard knocking at the door. John and Jessica ran into a hallway to hide while Jen got the door. John and Jessica opened a closet, and in it was Henry Emily's Suicide Animatronic. They promptly closed the closet and went into a room. In the room were several boxes. John heard breathing coming from one of the boxes and opened it. Inside was the real Charlie that 'died' six months earlier. This meant the other Charlie was an impostor. Meanwhile, Jen opened the door and saw Not-Charlie was there. Jen let her in and talked with her, but Not-Charlie cornered Jen and cut her chest open, killing her. With her final breath, Jen said that she always loved Charlie, not knowing it was an impostor. Not-Charlie then left and went away from Silver Reef, Utah. Not longer after Not-Charlie had gone, John and Jessica with the real Charlie and got into a car. They drove back to John's apartment and set Charlie down on his bed.

John then went back to Clay's house to get the robot doll Ella, which Clay had scavenged from the remains of Charlie's childhood house. John also found a disc that went with it and, when activated, transformed Ella into a baby version of Charlie. John them realized what Clay had meant about a maximum range and asked Jessica to meet him at the library with the microfilm.Once John and Jessica arrived at the library with the microfilm, they were brought to a microfilm room by the librarian. The put in the microfilm Clay had given into the machine and zoomed in on it on Charlie and saw animatronic lining on her face, realizing that Not-Charlie was actually Circus Baby. Clay had meant the maximum range of the distortion of Not-Charlie's look. Clay had known that Not-Charlie was not Charlie and that's why Circus Baby tried to kill him. Jessica then reminded John that they left the real Charlie at his apartment and that Not-Charlie was probably looking for her. They quickly rushed for John's apartment.

The Impostor[]

John and Jessica arrived outside John's apartment and started to try to get to the door when all of sudden Not-Charlie walked up to them. She talked to John and Jessica and asked if she could go inside John's apartment with them. John tried to not her, saying it was a mess and he needed to clean it up first. Not-Charlie ignored this, simply replying that John had seen Charlie's dorm six months earlier that was much messier. Jessica then tried to distract Not-Charlie by talking to her, giving John enough time to slip by, enter his apartment, and lock it's door to 'clean' it. He went to the sleeping Charlie on his bed and hid her behind his couch. Jessica then asked if he was done 'cleaning', to which John said yes and opened his door for Not-Charlie and Jessica. Once they were all inside, Not-Charlie began wandering around as if inspecting the apartment and looking for something. The impostor of Charlie then went to the couch to look, so John thought of something fast and distracted Not-Charlie by offering her and Jessica soda. He then brought both of them cans of soda. They all sat on the couch and Jessica said she had to leave and told Not-Charlie that she should leave as well. John offered to drive Not-Charlie to wherever she needed to go. Not-Charlie declined his offer, instead asking if John was down for another date at the Italian place later. John said yes and Charlie left. Jessica also left as well.

After Not-Charlie and Jessica had left, the real Charlie woke up and saw John. The two had a quick reunion and John moved his catch to make room for Charlie. John then gave Charlie a pillow and the two talked for a little bit before Charlie faded back into sleep.

The Meeting[]

For this second date with Not-Charlie, John and Jessica came up with a plan. John would go their and essentially question Not-Charlie and try to get some more facts out of there, meanwhile Jessica would go with Carlton to the Italian place to keep an eye out from a nearby booth that Not-Charlie couldn't see. John arrived at the location to see that Not-Charlie was early, which threw John off a lot as the real Charlie would always be late. Not-Charlie, seeming to know what John had done the day prior, grilled John about why he was at Silver Reef, Utah yesterday. John explained that he had an interest in history and was studying the silver and gold rushes. John also continued to tell Not-Charlie that he didn't think she was the real Charlie, to which Not-Charlie started becoming suspicious of John. Not-Charlie then walked over to John and kissed him on the cheek, then leaving. Jessica and Carlton then talked to John about what happened and Carlton said that Not-Charlie was hot. Jessica got mad at Carlton over this comment, slapping him and leaving. John and Carlton also left the Italian place with nothing better to do.

The Kidnapping[]

Jessica, after leaving the Italian place, sneaked into the trunk of Not-Charlie's car. She hid herself in there, planning to follow the imposter of Charlie to found out more about her. Not-Charlie then drove to the nearby Circus Baby's Pizza and went inside. When Jessica was confident that the imposter was not in sight, she got out of Not-Charlie's trunk and went to the back of Circus Baby's Pizza to find a way in. She can't get the door open and starts looking around when suddenly Not-Charlie saw her and cornered her. Not-Charlie then knocked Jessica unconcious and kidnapped her, bringing her into a secret room in the pizzeria. Jessica woke up strapped to a chair by ropes. Not-Charlie/Circus Baby then began telling Jessica the story of Elizabeth Afton and went a rant about anger, fear, and many other things. While Baby was talking, Jessica managed to undo the ropes that pinned her to the chair and ran for the door. Upon reaching the door, Jessica saw Springtrap blocking her path. Springtrap simply smiled at Jessica and began dancing in front of her, singing about how he caught her. Jessica grabbed the chair she was previously strapped to, but didn't use it. Springtrap then disappeared, being an illusion, and the real William Afton appeared. William Afton revealed that he was still alive and talked about his plans to stay alive and his mad science. William also showed Jessica the Amalgamation, a tangled up mess of the burned together remains of the Classic Animatronics from Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Jessica was then forced to help Baby do surgery on William to replace his kidney and then was locked up with the children Circus Baby had kidnapped. These children were Ron, Lisa, Jacob, and Alanna. Mangle the came to them and took Jacob away.

The Earpieces[]

John, Carlton, and Marla arrived back at John's appearance to see Charlie. Marle went into the apartment to see Charlie first, walking in and hugging her. Carlton came in next saying that he was glad to see her and that he didn't want to overwhelm her. John waited for the three of them to make their reintroductions first and then walked in. With all four of them together, John showed them Ella and how it transformed into a baby of Charlie. Confused, John demanded answers about it from the real Charlie, but she knew nothing. John then asked Charlie about her project from six months ago and how it had the earpieces that made humans visible to the robots. Charlie said she remembered it. John then asked Charlie if it would be possible to rewire the earpieces to make a person completely invisible to an animatronic, to which Charlie said yes and that you'd just have to switch a few wires. With this, John talked to Carlton and asked him to go to Jessica's to get the project earpieces and rewire them to make a person invisible. Carlton agreed to do it, driving to Jessica's apartment and taking the spare house key from under her doormat and unlocking her apartment. He went into Jessica's closet and got the box labelled "CHARLIE - WEIRD PROJECT", taking the earpieces out and rewiring them successfully. However, he only had two. Suddenly, Not-Charlie came into Jessica's apartment and saw Carlton. Not-Charlie then began flirting with Carlton, trying to trick him, and then cornered him and tried to kiss him. As she moved closer, Not-Charlie transformed into Circus Baby and Carlton put the earpiece into his ear. To Circus Baby, Carlton went invisible with the earpiece and she went looking for him. She couldn't find him and simply left.

With these new rewired earpieces, Carlton Burke left Jessica's apartment and drove back to John's apartment. He went into the apartment to find that John and Charlie had gone back to Silver Reef, Utah. With only Marla there, Carlton explained to her what happened and gave her the second earpiece. The two of them then went to Circus Baby's Pizza.

The Pizzeria[]

After getting to the pizzeria, Marla and Carlton first started looking for a way inside. They go around back and find a locked door. Carlton then pulled out a lockpick and picked the lock on the door, allowing the two of them to get inside the pizzeria. With their earpieces, none of the animatronics could see them and, at first, they make their way through quite easily. They past the Baby Crawlers first with ease and then find their way into a shifting maze. The maze's walls were a bunch of panels that moved and shifted around the large room, making it easy to get lost. Funtime Freddy realized that they were in the maze, but couldn't see that. Funtime Freddy began speaking loudly from a speaker in his chest to them and started hunting Marle and Carlton down across the maze. Funtime Freddy got very close to them several times, but failed the see them due to the earpieces. Finally, Funtime Freddy cornered them and Carlton got out his flashlight and used it to smash a panel so they could get through. The exit to the maze was in sight and they began to get near it. Suddenly, Carlton's earpiece came loose and fell out of his ear onto the ground. This allowed Funtime Freddy to see Carlton and he charged at him. Carlton ducked and rolled away, just in time for Marla to grab his earpiece and give it back to him. He put the earpiece back in his ear and managed to escape. They got out of the maze and eventually found another room. They opened the door to the room and found Jessica, Ron, Lisa, and Alanna.

The Finale[]

The Escape[]

After finding Jessica, Ron, Lisa, and Alanna, Carlton gave Jessica his earpiece and told Marla to go with Jessica and the children to help them escape the pizzeria. Jessica told Carlton that Mangle took the fourth child, Jacob, and Carlton left to go find Jacob. Jessica and Marla, both of which had earpieces, began running through the pizzeria to search for the doors to escape. Suddenly, Mangle attacked them and tried to catch them. They managed to escape Mangle, but ran into the Baby Crawlers. The Baby Crawlers couldn't see Jessica and Marla, who had earpieces, but could see the children. One of them bit Alanna, and she cried out in pain. Jessica and Marla took advantage of the fact the Baby Crawlers couldn't see them and threw them far out of the way and into the ballpit. The keep running through, only to pass a stage and see Funtime Foxy on it. Funtime Foxy promptly turned into Mangle and chased them down. Jessica took the earpiece out of her ear and put it into her pocket so she could distract Mangle. The plan worked and Mangle started chasing down Jessica, allowing Marla to escape with the three children. Jessica then ran into a tube system to run from Mangle and got away briefly. However, Mangle made it's way into the pipes as well. Jessica then escaped the tube, put the earpiece back in her ear, and trapped Mangle in a net. Jessica then managed to escape Circus Baby's Pizza.

The Showdown[]

John and Charlie made their way through the now dead Jen Emily's house and searched for answers. They found a letter adressed to 'Jenny', the name Henry referred to Jen as, and several sketches of Ella with different mathmatic scalings. Suddenly, Not-Charlie found them in the house and stared at Charlie. John was in the backyard when it happened and couldn't see them. Charlie was shocked and tried to back away. Suddenly, Not-Charlie attcked the real Charlie and John came back in. Not-Charlie grabbed John and kissed him on the lips, confusing him and leaving him disoriented. John managed to get back up, and Baby started choking him. She grabbed Charlie as well as well and threw both of them against the wall. Baby then began telling Charlie the truth about both Charlie and herself. Baby explained how Charlotte Emily was actually dead and that Charlie was an animatronic, one of four Charlies, that Henry Emily built out of grief and turmoil. Baby also explained that Baby herself was meant to be the fourth Charlie, but was never finished and eventually became property of William Afton. Baby also recounted the story of Elizabeth Afton, the girl that now possessed the Circus Baby animatronic. Charlie then made her way away from Baby, realizing that neither of them were still needed in this world, and lured Baby into the closet were Henry's Suicide Animatronic was at. Baby followed her in and grabbed Charlie and was about to kill her, but Charlie activated the Suicide Animatronic and stabbed both Charlie herself and Circus Baby. This ended the legacy of Henry Emily finally and freed Elizabeth Afton. John woke up and ran to find Charlie, only to find her and Baby both dead. He then left Jen's house.

The Spirits[]

Carlton continued searching for Jacob, not being able to find him. He continued exploring, finding a vent and moving threw it. He ran into Funtime Freddy again and was forced to run, as Carlton no longer had an earpiece. Carlton ran back through the vent and was chased by Funtime Freddy. He saw and exit from the shaft and kicked it open, finding himself into a room with a carnival ride. Who ran to the controls of the ride and waited for Funtime Freddy to come closer, then activating the ride and using it to smash Funtime Freddy into pieces. Carlton kept going through, but realized he had no way to find Jacob. He saw that it was hopeless and sat down and crying, saying that he failed his late best friend Michael Brooks. Suddenly, Carlton heard the sounds of Jacob crying and screaming and ran to find the source of them. He found himself in William's room with the Amalgamation still on the table. He ran to Jacob and tried to grab him, only to be stopped by William Afton himself. William then pinned Carlton down and injected him with remnant at the heart. The remnant came from the Amalgamation on the table and, with the remnant still being of Michael Brooks, Susie, Fritz, and Cassidy, he awakes into a vision where he is back at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza with Michael. Michael is trying to put back together pictures of the other missing children, hoping to bring them here with them. Carlton helped, and together they put Susie, Fritz, and Cassidy back together. Susie talked to Carlton, remarking that Spring Bonnie/William Afton was their friend. This shocked Carlton, who realized the spirits didn't remember that it was Afton who killed them. William, in the real world, saw that Carlton looked dead and decided to go after Jacob and inject him with remnant as an experiment as well. Carlton showed the spirits what William was about to do to Jacob and tried to remind them of the truth. Meanwhile, the remains of Mangle, Funtime Freddy, and the Baby Crawlers found their way into William's office and needed help being repaired. William got angry at them and told Mangle to grab Jacob, a command it didn't comprehend. With this, William instead ordered the Amalgamation, possessed by the original missing children talking to Carlton, to grab Jacob. Susie was about to do it when Carlton grabbed her arm and tried to remind her of the truth. He found a picture of Spring Bonnie and drawed blood on it with a red crayon to help them remember. As William saw the Amalgamation wasn't listening either, he went to grab Jacob himself. The spirits of the children William murdered suddenly remembered the truth of what happened and the Amalgamation attacked William. The Amalgamation lit on fire after coming in contact with the nearby fireplace and grabbed William, burning him 'alive' and killing him. The spirits of Michael Brooks, Gabriel, Cassidy, Susie, and Fritz were all finally able to move on and rest. Carlton awoke from the remnant-given 'dream' and found himself still alive, but barely.

The Aftermath[]

Sometime later, Carlton is in the hospital. He is telling the story of what happened with Jacob, William, Michael, Susie, Cassidy, and Fritz to Marla, Jessica, John, and his father Clay. Carlton asked Clay if Charlie was okay, to which he responded saying he was still looking for her. Carlton also asked about "Hot Charlie" (Circus Baby), to which Marla responded by slapping him. Carlton complained, having just almost died and being on a hospital bed. John told Clay that he won't be able to find Charlie, but didn't explain why and walked away. John then went to a graveyard to mourn Charlie's death and goes to the grave of Henry Emily and, next to it, Charlotte Emily (1980-1983). Soon after, John sees a woman nearby (presumably Charlie in her adult body) and walks up to her.
