Hoax characters were animatronics that were invented by members of the fandom as hoaxes. Hoax characters were very popular during Five Nights at Freddy's, Five Nights at Freddy's 2, and Five Nights at Freddy's 3, although have largely died out since Five Nights at Freddy's 4. The most well-known hoax characters include Sparky the Dog and the Purple Guy Animatronic, the former of which may have inspired Fetch.
The Purple Guy Animatronic was a popular hoax character following the release of Five Nights at Freddy's 2. He was a humanoid animatronic who was believed to sometimes appear slumped over in the Office.

The Purple Guy Animatronic was a reskin of Withered Golden Freddy that was designed to resemble Purple Guy from the Death Minigames.
History[]
In November 2014, a video was posted on YouTube by user RoXo1987, purporting to show a hidden animatronic called the Purple Guy Animatronic. The video claimed that this animatronic would appear in the office after the phone rang, sitting against the wall like Golden Freddy, and would only appear for one millisecond. However, it was later revealed that this image was created using Photoshop, appearing as a purple version of Golden Freddy with a gold token added.
