— Office tagline of the Fazbear Fanverse Initiative

The Fazbear Fanverse Initiative (FFI) is a project that was launched by Scott Cawthon on August 21, 2020 in order to help popular fangame franchises consider to expand with better funding and development. The games are funded by Scott Cawthon and developed by their respective development teams. This project has created an official "Fanverse." In June 2021, Scott officially registered the company Fazbear Fanverse, LLC to oversee the development of the initiative.

Included games[]

There are five games included in the FFI, the number being a reference to the original game, Five Nights at Freddy's. The first game is Popgoes Evergreen, which is the 8th installment of the POPGOES franchise. The second game is Five Nights at Candy's 4, which (despite the name) is the fifth installment in the Five Nights at Candy's franchise. The third game is The Joy of Creation: Ignited Collection, a modern remake of the previous The Joy of Creation games. Since this one is a remake, the previous franchise installments are not canon to the Fanverse. The Joy of Creation: Halloween Edition is not being included in the remake, meaning Ignited Springtrap is not canon as a caveat. The fourth game is One Night at Flumpty's 3, which (despite the name) is the fourth installment in the One Night at Flumpty's franchise.

Announcement message[]

Hey guys, I wanted to tell you all about a little project that I’ve been working on for a while now; it’s a giant collaboration involving several fangame creators who have made some of the most popular fangames over the years here in the community. It’s a project that’s designed to invest into those franchises, give back to the developers, and hopefully bring new entries to those franchises as well!
There have been some great fanmade spinoff universes created in this community, and I want to see them keep going; that’s why I’ve put some my own cash toward development of new games in those game series. However, I’m going to stay OUT of the development side of things so that these creators can do their thing. They’re going to develop these games and interact with the fanbase just as they would have normally, and when the games are done, they’ll be released on GameJolt for free, just like normal. The difference now is that they’ll also be bundled up with other games from the same series, such as the classic versions, or remakes, or minigames, and sold on most major consoles and mobile as well (at least that’s the plan). Did I mention there may be some toys and other merchandise of these fangames too?
So, what's in the initial lineup?
Emil will be bringing you Five Nights at Candy’s 4!
Nikson will be bringing you The Joy of Creation: Ignited Collection!
Kane will be bringing you Popgoes Evergreen!
Jonochrome will be bringing you One Night at Flumpty’s 3!
And finally, Phisnom will be bringing you a remake/re-imagining of the original FNaF!
Since some of the older fangames may have used copyrighted assets or assets created by other people, etc., some are getting remade in part, or remade entirely! Some are being remade completely from scratch with new character designs, new sound design and new artwork! It’s a big project on the part of all of these creators, so please show these developers some support! I want to see these games on consoles, and then maybe, if it goes well, I can add more fangames to this project in the future! So yeah, I’d really like to see this turn into something cool. What do you think?

Possible additions[]

Kane Carter pitched the addition of CHASE: Animatronics, but no further information has been revealed. This likely means it was either quietly rejected or is being worked on in secret.

Rejected additions[]

The development team of Final Nights pitched a game called Aftonbuilt. Aftonbuilt was initially accepted into the FFI and a demo was fully developed. However, due to a lack of resources, the game was cancelled and removed from the project. The demo has since been published online.

IvanG pitched the idea of Jolly 4. Jolly 4 was initially accepted into the FFI. However, due to copyright issues and leaks, the game was removed from the project. It is unknown how much of the game was developed.

Scott Cawthon personally requested that Nikson develop a remastered version of Those Nights at Rachel's as an addition to the FFI. Nikson refused to revisit Those Nights at Rachel's and emphasized his commitment towards remastering The Joy of Creation.

Earlier in the Fanverse's life, Phisnom was hired to make Five Nights at Freddy's Plus, a modern remake of the original Five Nights at Freddy's. Phisnom was fired in August 2023, and with it, FNAF Plus was removed from the fanverse.

Trivia[]

  • Although some of the PC editions are at least planned to be free, all of the ports are going to be paid purchases.
    • Currently, Popgoes Evergreen - Alongside the prequel, Popgoes Arcade - are the only ones confirmed to receive a DLC to compensate for the additional price tag. The PC editions will also receive this as a paid add-on.
  • Jolly was also planned to be in the Fanverse, with IvanG even announcing it directly. However, after information about the copyrighted material within the series was sent to Scott, it was removed before the Fanverse's proper announcement.
    • This makes it the first game to have been removed after being accepted.
  • It should be noted that none of the games within this initiative are canon to the official games.
    • As Phisnom put it: "The new remake/reimagining of FNAF, much like all other games in the Fazbear Fanverse, is NOT canon to the story of the original Five Nights at Freddy's series. I'd personally like to think of them as official alternative universes!"
    • Between each other, Evergreen and FNAC are the only ones confirmed to be within the same universe.
  • Despite the One Night at Flumpty's series being the first Fanverse games to be released, none of them were given a steam (re)release. As a result, the award for the first fangame on steam was given to POPGOES Arcade 2020 edition, paired with the Popgoes and the Machinist DLC.
  • One Night at Flumpty's is in a strange spot compared to the other Fazbear Fanverse Initiative games. Unlike the other games, ONaF:
    • Has received no merch, and isn't being considered for merch.
    • Has no known plans to receive Steam rereleases.
